The history of CornerStone Bank is the story of a true community bank, founded and financed by individuals with a desire to provide the area with a locally owned and managed bank that offers personalized caring service, locally based decisions and a knowledge and understanding of the needs and culture of the community. CornerStone Bank continues to be the only locally owned and managed bank in the Rockbridge County, Lexington and Buena Vista area. CornerStone Bank was the vision of our founding President and CEO David Grist. A lifelong resident of Lexington, VA, David spent his entire career in banking. In the midst of the financial crisis in 2008, David gathered a group of local board members together to raise the $9,000,000 in capital and completed the necessary operational and regulatory requirements to establish the Bank. The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) issued its approval Tuesday, February 17, 2009 for CornerStone Bank to open for business. Grist epitomized the essence of a local bank president and served in the role of Founding President and CEO until his death in February of 2014. On Tuesday, February 19, 2019, the tenth anniversary of the bank’s founding, the CornerStone Bank Headquarters building was dedicated in his memory. Since opening in 2009, CornerStone has grown to be the second largest bank in the Rockbridge County, Lexington and Buena Vista market. Consistently receiving the highest ratings by Bauer Financial, the nation’s leading independent bank research firm, CornerStone’s success is a testament to the Bank’s commitment to supporting our community, being fiercely independent, leveraging leading-edge technology, offering innovative products and services, and delivering CornerStone Cares service to our customers. Selected as the People’s Choice Employer of the Year by the Lexington/Rockbridge/Buena Vista Chamber of Commerce in both 2012 and 2018, CornerStone currently has 40 employees and three branches (Main Street Headquarters, College Square and Buena Vista). |
